Import Table Wizard

The Import Table Wizard allows you to create a new table by importing its columns and data from one of the available file formats: MS Excel, MS Access, MS Word, HTML, XML, DBF, TXT, or CSV.

To open the wizard double-click the Create table by importing data item within the Profile Window | Tables page.

The first step of the wizard allows you to select the import source: the import file type and its name.

Select one of the available types from the drop-down list and specify the file name to import table structure and data from.

The next step allows you to define the exact source for the Access or Excel file (table or worksheet) and specify the data preview options.

The appearance of this step depends on the file type selected on the previous step. For the Access file you have to specify the source table name, for the Excel file you should select a sheet by number or caption, for text files you can specify column delimiters and quote identifiers. Also for all file types you can customize the number of preview rows for the next wizard step, and select the row, which contain column caption, if necessary.

The third step is intended for displaying data preview - a sample of data taken from the source file.

This step does not contain any options or tuning. It only allows you to check the correctness of the previous settings and the source file.

The next wizard step allows you to customize the target columns, which will be created during import.

Target Column contains column caption to be created. Source Column allows you to select the source column for each of them, if necessary. You can add and remove columns from the list, managing the structure of your future table. The Edit... button opens the Edit Column Dialog, allowing you to modify the properties of the selected column. The Set Default button discards all changes you make and reverts columns to their initial state.

The following step allows you to tune the properties of the new table: its name, table type, etc.

Please to the Designing Table Options topic to get the detailed description of these properties.

Use this step of the wizard to adjust data formats used in the source file.

The edit boxes of this step allow you to set the format of reading specific date/time, integer, float, or boolean values from the source file.

The final step of the wizard starts importing, displaying the progress bar of the process.

Select Open the table in design mode to open the Table Designer after the table is created. To view and modify the data of the new table within the Grid Data View, select Open the table for viewing imported data. To close the wizard without any action after creating the table, select the Take no action.

Check the Abort Import On Error option to stop importing if any error occurs during the process.

To start importing with all the parameters you have set, click the Finish button. To abort the process of import click the Cancel button in the progress dialog.
