Export Database Wizard

The Export Database Wizard allows you to export your MySQL database into MS Access database, MS Excel Workbook, SQL Script, or a number of files in one of the available formats (MS Excel, MS Access, MS Word, HTML, XML, SQL, PDF, DBF, RTF, TXT, CSV, DIF, or SYLK).

To run the Export Database Wizard select one of the following item from the main menu:

  • File | Export Database | Export to Access Database...
  • File | Export Database | Export to Excel Workbook...
  • File | Export Database | Export to SQL Script...
  • File | Export Database | Export to Multiple Files...

The first step of the wizard allows you to select the export destination: the export file name or directory.

The appearance of this step depends on the main menu selection. It prompts you either for Access, Excel, or SQL file name, or for multiple file format and destination directory.

The next step of the wizard allows you to select the database tables and profile queries for export and edit the result table names, sheet captions, or file names.

The appearance of this step also depends on the initial selection. The above picture shows the example of multi-file export, in which you can define a separate file name for each table. In Export to Access Database and Export to SQL Script you define the result table names, and in the Export to Excel Workbook you can define the sheet caption for each exported table.

Use the third step of the wizard to adjust data formats for the result file(s).

The edit boxes of this step allow you to set the format of inserting specific date/time, integer, float, or boolean values into the result database or file.

The picture above shows the wizard step, which allows you to set headers and footers, which appear at the top and bottom of each file (excluding MS Access, SQL, XML, and DBF).

The next step is available only for MS Excel, MS Word, HTML, and PDF formats. It allows you to adjust the graphical design of the result file in a most easy way.

The Style Sheet list box defines the main color scheme of the result file, i.e. background and text colors of the result grid elements. The Layout box allows you to select the way of positioning grid columns and rows within the result file. All changes to Style Sheet and Layout are immediately displayed on the example image.

The final step of the wizard starts exporting, displaying the progress bar of the process.

If you export database to a single file, you can also define the action to execute after export completion. Select the Open file within the appropriate application item to run the program, associated with the export file type (e.g. MS Excel or MS Access) and open the result file. Select E-mail file as an attachment to open your default mail client with the result file attached to the newly created message. To close the wizard without any action after the export, select the Take no action item.

To start exporting with all the parameters you have set, click the Finish button. To abort the process of export click the Cancel button in the progress dialog.
